Smarta privacy notice.

Effective 21 August 2026 · Public website and Smarta platform overview

In plain language

We use information to respond to enquiries, provide and secure the Smarta service, support installations and communicate about operational events. We do not sell personal information.

1. Who we are

Smarta is a remote water- and pump-management product developed and operated by Mistbits. In this notice, “Smarta”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the Smarta team and Mistbits where it provides the technology and operational services behind Smarta.

This notice explains our general approach. A customer agreement, operator agreement or site-specific notice may contain additional terms for a particular deployment.

2. Information from the public website

This website does not include an embedded enquiry form or advertising trackers in its current release. If you contact us by email, telephone or WhatsApp, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your name, contact details, organisation, site information, photographs and message.

Links to the App Store, Google Play, WhatsApp, Smarta Estate, the customer platform and other external services take you to third parties that apply their own privacy notices.

3. Information used by the Smarta platform

The platform may process:

  • account and contact information, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, organisation and assigned access roles;
  • site and equipment information, including logger identifiers, site configuration, approximate location, control settings and alarm contacts;
  • operational telemetry, including pump state, electrical measurements, water level, flow, pressure, reservoir status and configured water-quality measurements;
  • commands, schedules, alarms, reports, event history, maintenance information and files supplied by authorised users;
  • mobile-device and notification information needed to provide secure sessions and push notifications; and
  • security, diagnostic and audit information used to protect accounts, investigate faults and support the service.

4. Why we use information

We use information to provide the contracted service; authenticate users; show authorised site information; deliver commands, alerts and reports; support installations and troubleshooting; improve reliability and security; respond to enquiries; maintain business records; and meet applicable legal obligations.

Where a customer decides why and how site or user information is processed, that customer may be the responsible party and Mistbits may act as its operator. Requests about customer-managed information should usually be directed to the relevant customer first.

5. Sharing and service providers

We may use carefully selected providers for cloud hosting, database infrastructure, email delivery, push notifications, file storage, error monitoring, reporting and communications. They receive only the information needed to provide their service and are subject to applicable contractual and security requirements.

We may also share information when instructed by the responsible customer, when required by law, to protect users or infrastructure, or as part of a legitimate business restructuring subject to appropriate safeguards.

6. Security and retention

We use role-based access, authentication controls, encrypted network connections, audit records and operational safeguards appropriate to the service. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so users should protect account credentials and tell us promptly about suspected unauthorised access.

We retain information for as long as reasonably needed to provide the service, maintain operational and legal records, resolve disputes and meet contractual or legal duties. Retention periods may differ between account records, telemetry, reports, files, security logs and enquiries.

7. Your choices and rights

Subject to applicable law and the role of the relevant customer, you may ask about personal information held about you, request correction or deletion, object to certain processing, or raise a concern. We may need to verify your identity and may direct platform-data requests to the responsible customer.

South African users can find independent guidance and complaint channels on the Information Regulator South Africa website ↗.

8. Contact us

For a privacy question or request, email info@smarta.co.za or call 010 110 1000. Please provide enough context for us to identify the relevant enquiry, account or customer relationship without sending passwords or unnecessary sensitive information.

9. Changes to this notice

We may update this notice when the website, platform, service providers or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top shows when this version was issued.
